While celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. today, I came across two very different perspectives on New York State education reform.
The first, Dr. King and the common core, is written by NYS Education commissioner, John King. I was appalled at how short sighted he is when offering solutions to the problems in education today.
The second, Wise Words for Plutocrats from Dr. Martin Luther King, is written by Russ Walsh, a blogger who writes about literacy and public education. I was encouraged. Russ reminds us that, “…education is not the way out of poverty, relieving poverty is the way into education.”
