In New York State, the Board of Regents oversees all educational activities and presides over The University and the New York State Education Department. Four incumbents, Regents Cea, Jackson, Cotrell and Norwood, are up against 20 new candidates for seats on the Board of Regents. Considering the growing unrest surrounding education in New York State, it is past time to give the process by which Regents are appointed more thought and bring on Regents who will thoughtfully listen to educators, parents, and students as they make choices to provide a high quality education for all students of New York State.
On February 4th and 11th, Assemblywomen Nolan and Glick will lead interviews for the four positions on the Board of Regents. It is imperative that we urge our elected New York State legislators to attend the interviews, participate in the process of appointing new Regents, and advocate for change.
Here’s what you can do:
Email your state senator or assembly member and ask him/her to actively participate in the interview and selection process. Not sure what to say? Our allies over at the New York State Allies for Public Education (NYSAPE) have provided some useful information for you here and you can find your elected official’s contact information here:
