Yesterday New York Governor Andrew Cuomo named the members of his Common Core panel. You can read more about the announcement from Paul Riede here at syracuse.com. As many expected, the panel is made up of persons who have stated their support for Common Core or have connections to the corporate reform industry. Perdido Street School goes into depth about each of the panel members on its blog here and on her blog, Diane Ravitch shares insight from Leonie Haimson of Class Size Matters. There are no early childhood experts or special education teachers on the panel. In other words, there is no representation from two groups that have voiced the loudest and strongest concerns about Common Core Learning Standards. The response from the grassroots movement? Standard. The grassroots got back to work with more diligence and determination. Unlike Governor Cuomo, this is not about winning-this is about our children.
